Troop 937 began in the spring of 2000 and was started by Joe Polak. He had a vision of pioneering a new Troop and this he did. To date we have 15 Eagle Scouts. We are a very active troop. We have gone to such places as the Nippon National Jamboree in Japan, the US National Jamboree and Double H. We have attended many local and out of state summer camps as well.
Developing our youth in to good citizens and leaders is what Scouting is all about. How do we do it? We start by creating an environment for fun... Starting with the outdoors and camping, throw in some fire building and cooking skills, work up to knife and ax training, then add in merit badges, summer camp, and backpacking. This is our recipe for fun. We also supplement this program with community service projects, citizenship training (where else would you learn how to fold the American flag?), and advancement in scouting rank.
Leadership is developed by having the boys lead the Troop. The Troop is run by the patrol method, meaning that each boy has an opportunity to play an active role in the operation of the Troop. The boys select all Troop activities. The boys also select merit badges earned and service projects undertaken. Adults are here to help facilitate activities by giving advice when needed and driving on outings. On campouts the boys make out the menus, line out the food, put together duty rosters and then do the cooking and cleaning. They are also responsible for the patrol’s equipment. This is the way boys learn, by doing.
The Troop is here for the boys, but every parent has a role too, after all, there is but a short time before our kids are grown and gone, don’t let it slip by without sharing in the fun!! By helping the Troop you will gain the satisfaction of knowing you have done your best for your son(s).
If you are interested in joining our Troop please come to a meeting or email our scoutmaster at scoutmaster@troop937.org. You can also contact our Committee Chairman at chairman@troop937.org.
